Apparently fire drills in japan work a bit differently than in America.

I’ve been working at my desk for the past hour or so and I just realized the school clerk and I are the only ones in the teacher’s room. This is a rare occurrence and usually means that I’ve missed something.

It turns out I indeed missed the announcement made 10 minutes ago that calmly informed everyone around me of the fire drill now taking place. No alarms, no bells, just an announcement made like the morning schedule. A part of me wants to cut some flames out of red construction paper, tape them to my coat, and run out of the school screaming, but I don’t know how to say “I’m just playing around, please don’t call my manager” in polite Japanese.
